Syntax Root: Loop, (Live)

Syntax Root: Loop, Live presents an evening of electroacoustic performances and VJ performances from a line up of internationally acclaimed artists.  The event coincides with the Syntax Root: Loop exhibition taking place in E:vent’s gallery space.  Both the exhibition and the live audio/visual mixes focus on contemporary film making processes and ‘live cinema’ techniques.  These include the use of databases to store film clips and loops, allowing the aritists to mix and create monatages in real time.

Criticizing the simple history of influence from novel to film, Sergei Eisenstein, Film Form (1977), considered the nineteenth-century novel a precursor for the ‘cinematic imagination’. A generation later Lev Manovich, The Language of New Media (2000), proposes that the loop be a new narrative form appropriate for the computer age.
